Summary of Activities
We are now working on the video progress report due next week. We had to abandon the idea of doing a video in real-time using a skype conference call due to time constraints and the absence of most members of the group.
The idea is now to start the video with a short presentation of all of us, followed by 4 parts on our advancement, strategy, learnings and self-reflection, presented each by a member of the group.
We are still happily using Google Docs to put our toughts together, and it proves an useful tool to enable distance working and tackle the issues that long-distance collaboration involves.
Reflections
One major challenge that we are facing is that we still have not heard at all from two of our group members, and have no information about their status despite being given recurrent assurances that they are in the process of joining. Also we have been informed by Zach that there are some changes on NYU side concerning the organization of the GIM there and that it will impact his collaboration with us. We have not received information from ESADE about these changes and we are currently enquiring about it. These issues have clearly affected our work progress, since we are currently working as half a team, and we have no clear information on how that will evolve in the near future.
Therefore we have not started yet to work on planning interviews and sourcing information about GSK as we had planned in the first week. However we hope that the problems will be soon resolved and that we will be able to make decisive advances in our research from next week onwards.
In the meantime we are striving to make a comprehensive video report.

Learnings from this week
ReplyDeleteThis week, we faced two major challenges. The first one was a need of adaptation towards our team composition. A smaller number of team members implied redistributing the work in order to complete our next deliverable, the video progress report, effectively.
The second challenge that we faced was the availability from some of our team members. Indeed, due to communication problems or a tight schedule, it was sometimes hard to get in contact with everyone and contribute efficiently.
However, those two challenges lead me, and the group as a whole, to be more flexible. We learned to adapt, reschedule and collaborate to find a solution. Flexibility is definitely a crucial ability in a professional and personal environment, and I believe it is important for all of us to acquire and put it into practice as soon as we can.
This week definitely saw major challenges from an organizational standpoint. The changes in our team structure that stemmed from the loss of several members of the group forced us to quickly adapt and determine how to pick up the sudden extra workload. Despite this, we're still on schedule to complete our second deliverable by Monday.
ReplyDeleteOne of our team's biggest strengths has been our constant communication with one another. People are constantly checking in with progress updates, which has allowed us to identify potential problems and crunches early and adjust to compensate for them. The weekly meetings have also been quite valuable in ensuring responsibility and accountability from all group members.
The second deliverable does present some challenges for us, since as a group our video editing experience is limited. Though this does complicate the completion of the video, it's also a good chance to learn a skill that might come in very handy in a professional environment.
